Runway Extravaganza Brings Excitement

Every year the Tri-County Fair holds a modeling showcase called Runway Extravaganza for 4-H members enrolled in sewing projects. Usually, Runway Extravaganza is in a dark and dusty corner of the aging Tri-County Fair Building. After many discussions, it was agreed to hold the Runway Extravaganza in a new location, and on a new date and time-still during the fair. With the support and insight of John Henderson, the local community theater generously offered 4-H the use of the Rialto Theater at no charge. Henderson is a true supporter of 4-H and sewing projects and wanted to see the Runway Extravaganza live up to its full potential, which to him meant letting these 4-H’ers have a moment in the spotlight. Henderson and the Rialto allowed 4-H members full use of the staging area, dressing rooms, lights, and sound. The change of location brought excitement to many 4-H’ers enrolled in sewing projects, and encouragement for 4-H’ers considering sewing projects in the future. The judges and audience were so pleased with the new place for Runway Extravaganza; attendance increased by 400%, up from 8 last year to 52 this year. Because of Runway Extravaganza’s success, Henderson has promised 4-H use of the Rialto in perpetuity.
