Wheatland County is located just south of the center of Montana, in the middle of everywhere. The rural county has a population of around 2,200 people. Although it founded as a railroad community, Wheatland County’s roots have always been in agriculture. The community is supported by many generational farms and ranches which provide a rich legacy and tradition to the area. The Musselshell valley was once to be known for its open winters because the predictable west wind blew the snow. Now that wind is harnessed to generate electricity. Firmly grounded in agricultural traditions, Wheatland County is embracing innovation and moving toward the future and supports many diverse small businesses.
