The Lewis & Clark County Extension Office

Published: 2019

Our office is attached to the Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds ticket office where we receive over 100 insect, plant, and plant disease identification requests and about 60 soil and hay tests per year. In addition, we oversee the Lewis and Clark County 4-H program and work closely with over 500 volunteers, families, and youth members to deliver resources, communications, and leadership for 4-H clubs and projects. Currently our office has three Extension positions: A full time 4-H/Youth Development Extension Agent, a full time Agriculture/Horticulture Extension Agent, and a combined SNAP-Ed and Family Consumer Science (FCS) Extension Agent position. In the 2018-19 year, Kara Tangedal served as our 4-H/Youth Development Agent with Lexi Foust keeping us organized in her Administrative Assistant position. We recently hired Mat Walter as the Agriculture Extension Agent, and he begins his work with us in November of 2019. Mat specializes in Pesticide Applicator Training (PAT) and forages, and currently has a grant to create Agriculture podcasts aimed at Montana producers. We look forward to a SNAP-Ed/FCS Agent joining us in the near future to provide excellent resources on canning, food preservation, nutrition education, and more.
