Garfield County 4-H... 4-H is the youth development program of land grant universities. 4-H engages youth in many aspects of daily life. Youth are encouraged to participate in group activities, community events, and individual learning, but the most important aspect is the 4-H motto...Learn By Doing! Youth participate in 4-H for the enjoyment of learning new skills and working with other youth. Garfield County 4-H strives to provide its members with ample opportunities to engage in hands-on learning experiences. Most youth stay in 4-H because they are having fun while learning a new skill and they are afforded the opportunities for new life discoveries. In recent discussions with several 4-H members, they stated a major reason for their participation is the ability to interact with lots of other youth and the opportunity to learn at the same time they are having fun. Garfield County has a very active shooting sports program. Members are taught safe firearms handling, self discipline, self control, and goal setting. The culmination of the program is the opportunity for all members to participate in the State 4-H Shooting Sports Match in Bozeman. 4-H camp at Camp Needmore is a long held tradition in eastern Montana. Youth are exposed to a variety of 4-H projects and skills during the 3-day event. Participants meet and interact with members from 8 counties, many of the friendships developed last well past the 4-H years. Youth learn self-esteem, self-confidence, decision making skills and the ability to interact in environments outside their comfort zone. Traditional Clubs... All the time honored projects providing hands on learning while engaged in an activity they enjoy...
