The Big Horn County 4-H program had a great year! MSU Extension appreciates all the hard-working volunteers and leaders who make this program possible, and make it a success. During just the week of the county fair, volunteers put in over 1,500 hours. The major highlight and culmination of the 4-H year is the Big Horn County Youth and Open Fair. There were over 730 project entries. Thanks to our generous community participation, the Project Animal Sale generated a record-breaking $205,727. Youth often use their sale money to start projects for the following fair, or they invest it into their future, such as in a college fund. The Big Horn County shooting sports program applied for and received a $6,175 National Rifle Association Foundation (NRA) Grant. With this grant the program was able to purchase multiple items including Genesis bows and arrows, air rifles, shotguns, an archery repair kit, and personal protective equipment. Members greatly benefited from this grant as purchasing equipment may be cost prohibitive. One member who enrolled in the shotgun project at the beginning of the year was shooting less than 5 out of 25 clay targets. By the end of the year, his shooting accuracy improved into the upper teens by using equipment purchased with the grant. Lastly, the Big Horn County 4-H program would not be possible without the support of the Big Horn County Commissioners, Big Horn County Fair board, and the multiple adult volunteers and leaders around the county who donate their time in helping "To Make the Best Better.” Big Horn County MSU Extension thanks the community for continuing support in helping our youth.
