In Richland County in 2019, a variety of programs/classes related to health and wellness were offered to Richland County Residents. Crockpot Freezer meals (as a partnership with Sidney Young Professionals), Dining with Diabetes, and StrongPeople classes aimed to provide participants an opportunity to learn about nutrition, and the importance of exercise as individuals age, and more. The Crockpot Freezer meals and the Dining with Diabetes program had a total of 29 participants. In the Crockpot Freezer meal class, 100% of participants indicated they learned how to modify and substitute ingredients to make a healthier meal, and 96% of participants planned on making a change towards cooking more at home. In Dining with Diabetes, 88% of the participants indicated they left the class feeling they could make a positive impact on themselves and others; in addition, 57% of the participants learned what food would raise blood sugar. After attending the Dining with Diabetes program, one Richland County resident quoted “I enjoyed the class, and I feel that I learned a lot of valuable information that I can apply to my life and also share with others.” StongPeople classes were taught in Sidney, Fairview, and Savage MT. A total of 16 individuals participated in a StongPeople class. One Richland County Resident quoted the most important thing the gained from the StrongPeople program was “Physical strength and improved balance.” An increase in community ties was reported by 80% of participants. All three classes/programs have had a positive impact on the residents of Richland County.
